Awake in better mood than when we went to bed and lay in bed and watched the mist roll down the river :) get a nice shot of a dewy cobweb and the sun is out!!! So we both do our exercises again!!! Mag had a good idea in the night about asking one of our sons to order the broken inverter from Amazon and have it delivered to Julie’s house but I said it would be better to ring Julie to check how long they were going to be there and in the end Julie very kindly ordered it from French Amazon and hopefully it will be here in the next couple of days, the thought of being without my beloved camera for a while was too much to bear!!! It was then time to untie the bikes, pack a bread and cheese picnic and head up river on the path by the Lot :) After going under the bridge of a disused railway, past some small caves we checked out we came to the Chemin de halage a stunning walkway cut through ½ a mile of the cliff!!! At the end there is a lock and we sat here for ages watching a couple of boats go through the locks including a boat with a crane used for clearing fallen trees from the river and one of the large tourist boats which had to pass in the narrow canal section. Time to move on past fields of sweet corn and sad sunflowers and we caught up with the tree boat at the next lock at Saint-Cirq Lapopie : this is a famous medieval town built high above the river so after locking our bikes we headed up the steep path to check out the fantastic views and wonderful old buildings!!! We spent a great couple of hours here, having our picnic with a top view before having a look around the church, galleries and old houses. There were lots of nice restaurants too and although there were several people about there was none of the old tat as in Rocamadour!!! It was then back to the bikes to continue up river in search of a bridge to cross the river. We managed to stick mainly to river paths and used the road a little as possible and eventually finding a crossing place at Geneviere and headed back. We found a long farm path along the river this side too, as well as the usual crops we saw a field of red peppers being picked and several fields of Lombardy poplars being grown to be planted along the roads as common in France:) After going under a long tunnel we headed along a bumpy track to where the le Lot is joined by the Le Cele and had a great chat to a carp fisherman over from Lancashire setting up his boat, tent and rods, he caught a 31 pound carp a few days ago !!! We were nearly back to the van now just the overhanging rock section of road left and the narrow bridge left, we arrived back after 6 hours away, a top top day – it doesn’t get much better than this :) Time to fill up the water, sort the dirty washing up and tie the bikes on and have an hour’s fishing in the le Lot, I lost my biggest fish on a branch managed to get a couple of tiddlers! Another big tin for tea, lentils and sausages and am now typing this as fast as I can before the battery goes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
